Customized X-Keys for 3DS/Maya
"X-keys simply lightened the workload of my mouse
hand."
- Jesper
Colding
Hi, my name is Jesper Colding, and I love x-keys. I've been using x-keys products for the last 7 years of my 15 years
career within the animation industry, primarily using the x-keys for
the 3DS Max software.
I must admit, I'm getting older, and the programs are getting bigger all the time (more advanced tools equals more shortcut key possibilities, and thus, more to remember).
Therefore I initially invested in the X-keys professional keypad. I used the
middle part of keys as the main navigation for the 3D tool, and the upper part
of keys for the main options like undo/redo, save/save incremental, etc.
The keypad has never left my desktop after the purchase. I’m so happy
about it. As a bonus, the increasing pain in my mouse moving hand, totally went
away, due to the fact, that the X-keys simply lightened the workload of my mouse
hand. Instead of navigating unnecessarily around with my mouse, searching for
that specific button amongst the many tools, and button clicking like a maniac,
I started replacing all the commonly used button pressed with shortcuts on my
X-keys.
Well, due to the shear size of the program, and the success of my X-keys setup,
I decided upon purchasing yet another keypad, strictly for shortcuts covering
the 3D modeling phase. I therefore purchased the X-keys Desktop (the little
one). And it fit my needs perfectly. So now, I have a big pad for all the main
tools plus navigation, and a small one for all the basic functions for modeling.
I personally preferred to buy both X-keys products in the standard ps2 keyboard
version (not the USB).
Both version have their own strengths. The USB versions have cool setup software.
But the standard ps2 keyboard versions shine in simplicity.
You program the ps2 versions very easily with a couple of button clicks, and
then your’e ready to plug the pad in to any computer. I personally liked
this solution. No software needed.
Life couldn't be better….. now wait a minute, come to think of
it… should I buy one for after effects, and one for photoshop too? I feel
very tempted.
Best regards,
